Enniskillen Bomb

On Remembrance Sunday 8th November 1987, Selwyn Johnston, a 17 year old boy who was a member of the Boys’ Brigade, went to the war memorial in Enniskillen to lay this wreath.

During the ceremony an IRA bomb exploded near the memorial, killing 11 people and injuring 63 others. Rather than leave the wreath among the rubble, Johnston took it home. You can read his account of what happened in the personal responses section of this exhibition. A twelfth victim, Ronnie Hill, died in 2000, having been in a coma for 13 years after the bombing.
