George Best’s Funeral

Back to 2000s
George Best (1946-2005) was a top football player at Manchester United in the 1960s and early 1970s.

A hugely talented player, he won 37 caps for Northern Ireland. His sporting success combined with his reputation as a playboy, made him an internationally known figure.

We now have two of his football shirts in the collection, one Manchester United and one Northern Ireland, as well as a Tyne Tex ‘Ringway’ coat of his with a fur collar and half-quilted lining and a range of match programmes, tickets, photographs and other memorabilia. George Best gave these match-worn Adidas football boots, along with other personal items to a family friend in Belfast in the late 1970s.
