The Waterfront Hall Opening

Back to 1990s

The Waterfront Hall in Belfast, designed by local architecture firm Robinson McIlwaine, opened to the public on 17 January 1997 with a gala concert featuring the Ulster Orchestra, pianist Barry Douglas and flautist James Galway.

As part of the ‘Yes’ campaign, a concert was organised at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast in May 1998, with U2 headlining the event. Bono brought David Trimble and John Hume on stage, who showed a strong display of unity by joining hands.
