This event has now ended.

Join photographer Bill Rolston and our Senior Curator of History, Dr Karen Logan, for an In Conversation in the Ulster Museum's Lecture Theatre about the Drawing Support: Murals, Memory and Identity exhibition. In this talk, hosted by Ulster University’s Eilish Rooney, Bill will discuss the themes of identity and cultural expression present in the political murals in the exhibition. Please enjoy the exhibition after the talk, which is on display in the Belfast Room.

The tradition of political mural painting here began in 1908, making it the longest-continuous example in the world. Bill Rolston, an emeritus professor at Ulster University, has been photographing murals since 1981 and is a leading authority on the subject. The exhibition is based on Rolston's photographs, many of which have been published through five volumes entitled Drawing Support between 1991 and 2022 and on his website.
