Tour for schools from 27 February – 6 June 2024

A major new exhibition, ‘Lavery On Location will bring together for the first time many works by the Belfast-born painter Sir John Lavery. It’s an opportunity to explore the life and work of one of the most celebrated artists of the early 1900s. 

Your class will discover Sir John Lavery’s journey from three-year-old orphan to internationally famous artist.  As they move around the gallery, they will travel with him to France, Morocco and Switzerland and experience the glamour of a lost era with visits to the races, tennis matches, ice-skating and relaxing on summer days with his family and friends.  

GCSE and A Level Tour - 1 hour | FREE

For GCSE and A Level students, the tour will give an opportunity to reflect on Lavery’s work by looking at his contemporaries: Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Jack B. Yeats and Roderick O’Conor. They will be able to explore his development as an artist and the historic and social context of his paintings.

Workshop for schools - 27 February – 6 June 2024

To celebrate this major new exhibition, ‘Lavery On Location’, we’re offering this creative workshop for FREE to schools!  It’s an opportunity to explore the life and work of one of the most celebrated artists of the early 1900s. Your class will discover Sir John Lavery’s journey from three-year-old orphan to internationally famous artist.  They will travel with him to France, Morocco and Switzerland and experience the glamour of a lost era with visits to the races, tennis matches, ice-skating and relaxing on summer days with his family and friends. 

Following the exploration of the gallery, your class will make their own coloured drawings inspired by Lavery’s paintings.
