Join us for a hands-on workshop where children will dive into the fascinating and colourful world of LEGO animation. The workshop will allow participants to make a complete animated LEGO film on an iPad, using sound effects, visual effects, titles and lots of imagination!
10:30 - Shorts for Shorties
A collection of short animations designed to appeal to young children. Audience Award! Vote for your favourite short film at the end of the screening.
13:00 - 2D Character Design Workshop
Learn 2D character design with Can Do Academy. This fun interactive workshop will see participants drawing their own 2D cartoon characters in a way that’s suitable for animation. Everyone will learn about the essentials of good 2-dimensional character creation and get to animate their characters using iPads and user-friendly apps.
13:00 - The Drifting Guitar
Join us as we discover vibrant new worlds, surprising characters, breathtaking landscapes, and unknown traditions in this animation shorts package for young audiences. Audience Award! Vote for your favourite short film at the end of the screening.
15:15 - Stop Motion Animation Workshop
Stop motion allows young people to think outside the box by creating amazing stories through animation. Participants will learn about the techniques involved in this exciting area of filmmaking, including using sound effects, visual effects and the craft of model making.
15:30-Lí Ban
To mark the launch of Lí Ban, Paper Owl will host a special Cinemagic Festival preview screening and family Q&A with writer Myra Zeph and Sadbh Breathnach, voice of Lí Ban. Transformed mysteriously from girl and dog into a mermaid and sea otter, Lí Ban and her faithful Con explore the watery kingdoms of Celtic legend, meeting gods, monsters, giants and wily humans in their search for answers.

10:30-Elli and her Monster Team
See the NI premiere of Elli and her Monster Team at Ulster Museum. When a homeless little ghost knocks on the door to the eccentric residents of a Ghost Train on the lookout for a place to belong, she accidentally attracts the attention from the “outside-world” and must team up with the motley crew of monsters on a crazy quest to save not only the future of the Ghost Train, but also her only chance to finally have a family of her own.
12:30-Eat/Sleep/Cheer/Repeat
Being a world-class cheerleader requires strength, sweat, and tears! Amidst pastures and communal living in the industrial zone on the outskirts of the westernmost city in Europe, the best cheerleaders and athletes from across Ireland gather to form the national team. Screening followed by a Q&A with Director Tanya Doyle and Producers Daniel Hegarty and Sinead Ni Bhroin.

When Riley was young, her mind was already a complicated place, full of emotions such as Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust. Now that she is growing up quickly into a teenager, these core emotions get a sudden rude awakening when their headquarters are suddenly demolished and rebuilt to make room for a whole host of new emotions including - Anxiety! This is a relaxed screening for those in the neurodiverse community.

The trick to a good storyboard is to know where to place the camera and characters to best tell the story. Informal, fun and informative, this workshop will use examples and exercises to give participants the knowledge they need to visually tell a story, participants will then be able to storyboard stories of their very own.
