Conflict in Life and on Film: Brian Desmond Hurst

Looking at the life of Brian Desmond Hurst through a tour, talk and film screening

A Letter from Ulster 1942, directed by Brian Desmond Hurst
Date
Thursday 24th August

Time: 14:30 to 16:00

Discover the life and work of Brian Desmond Hurst, one of Northern Ireland's greatest film directors, through a talk, tour and film screening on Thursday 24th August.

Join Curator of Modern History, Tríona White Hamilton, at 14:30 for a tour of our 'Film as Art: Brian Desmond Hurst, Film Director’ exhibition in the Belfast Room. Then at 15:00, we'll be hearing from Hurst's great great nephew, Allan Esler Smith, on the launch of the critically acclaimed book 'Hurst on Film, 1928 - 1970'.  Learn how this book inspired our exhibition, and explore why Hurst had a passion for war films in this Lecture Theatre talk.

We'll conclude this event with a screening of 'A Letter from Ulster' - Hurst's only film made on his home soil in Northern Ireland, and most likely Northern Ireland's first full documentary.
