Conserving the Cannon

Watch the conservation of a Cannon in action!

Conserving the Cannon 1095x616
Date
Friday 26th July
Time
10:00 to 17:00

Please note that due to staff illness, Conserving the Cannon will not be taking place on Friday 26th of July.

Want to see conservation in action? Watch our object conservator, Shannon Campbell, working on one of our Spanish Armada cannons as part of ongoing work to care for our collections.

This cannon was hidden beneath the sea for almost 400 years before being discovered in 1971 in Kinnagoe Bay. Centuries underwater weakened it, with salty seawater accelerating the corrosion process. Shannon will be doing some minor cleaning and corrosion stabilisation so the cannon remains in good condition for as long as possible.

Stop by and ask any questions you might have about the efforts to protect this piece of history!
